Marriage License Information
Kentucky Marriage Certificates and Marriage Licenses
Perhaps the easiest part of planning your wedding is obtaining your kentucky marriage license. The Commonwealth of Kentucky makes the process simple and quick.
You can obtain your license at any County Clerk’s Office. The bride and groom both need to be present and provide a government issued photo ID. No blood work is required and there is no waiting period. However, the license is only valid for 30 days. This means it must be returned to the office before your 30 days expire. Make sure someone mails the license while you are on your honeymoon, or they can drop it off at any location. The cost is $34.50 and the clerk’s office will accept cash, checks, debit cards, and VISA or MasterCard.
Can your visiting Pastor or friend perform the ceremony and the marriage be considered legal? YES!
As long as the person is ordained and in good standing with their church, synagogue or is a Justice of the Peace, your marriage will be legal. Visiting ministers from around the country do not have to receive permission to perform your ceremony in Kentucky.
